I enjoyed your article. I just lost my "once in a lifetime dog" a black std poodle named Preston, I have had 11 breeds, and 16 dogs. The loss of this dog is tough, never have I felt the loss of someone/something like this. I have a black lad that I hunt with that is sweet and lovable, great dog. But he is not my poodle. I plan on getting another one in the future, but a hunting poodle. I am a poodle person I have decided. There is nothing like them. I hope I find one that is a lovable as my big boy Preston was. What a great dog.

My take on this particular subject is straightforward. If it weren't with regard to my dog I would have no motive to live. We've been together every day since she was 12 weeks old (she's nearly 5) and I couldn't just imagine leaving her; or as an example staying without her.

Fabulous post. Thank you so much for sharing your story, very touching. Isn't it wonderful to have such a devoted and loving companion to get us through the losses in life. People don't know what they're missing when they reject the "shy" puppy.

Breeding Standard Poodles without first genetically testing the parents is like building a building without blueprints. Results will be disappointing.

You are absolutely right about the "shy" puppy. My Toby was the one hanging in the back. He is the calmest, kindest, smartest and easiest to train dog that I have ever had.(I hesitate to call him a dog because he is more like a human child.) Amazing! He loves other dogs and will lie down to be around a smaller dog so he is not so intimidating. My husband was very ill and Toby was his best friend, he seemed to know when DAD needed a hug or just some love. When my Husband passed away, he just laid his head on Dads chest and told him goodbye and never looked for him again. He has converted me to the standard breed forever! Thanks for letting me testify. I love Standard Poodles.
